Tang Jai Yoo Restaurant
Bangkok
Reviews
Tang Jai Yoo was one of the highlights of our trip to Bangkok. The restaurant was clean, the service was impressively fast, with dishes arriving so quickly it felt like the kitchen was already one step ahead. The suckling pig was exceptional, with perfectly crispy skin and tender, flavorful meat. The stir-fried kale was fresh and well seasoned, providing a great balance to the richer dishes. The crab fried rice was packed with generous pieces of crab and had excellent wok flavor. Every dish was served hot and tasted freshly prepared. The atmosphere has a true Bangkok Chinatown feel with a distinctly Thai twist. It was interesting to see dishes like tom yum on the menu, something I don’t usually expect at a Chinese restaurant, but it reflects Bangkok’s unique food culture. I’d definitely recommend making a reservation, as the restaurant gets very busy. Deserves 5 stars but i’d give it a 4 out of 5 because they don’t warn you that it’s cash only before you order, and I’d happily return on my next visit.
Located along a very busy street in Chinatown, this Chinese restaurant is clearly popular — the place was packed with people and had a lively atmosphere throughout the meal. The food overall was decent and enjoyable. Their signature dish is the whole roasted suckling pig, which many tables seemed to order. The skin was crispy and flavorful, though personally, I didn’t really like the chewy rice paper used to wrap the suckling pig skin. I found it a bit too thick and it affected the texture combination slightly. The staff here were very attentive and responsive despite the crowd, which made the dining experience more pleasant. We also ordered the hotpot fish soup. The yam was soft, smooth, and nicely cooked, but the fish itself was slightly disappointing as it didn’t taste very fresh — the texture was not firm or flaky as expected. Overall, it was still a nice dining experience with good atmosphere and service, especially if you want to try their famous roasted suckling pig.
Old school teochew restaurant in the heart of Chinatown, we have been visiting this restaurant for years whenever we visited Bangkok. They definitely don’t stinge with ingredients, oyster omelette was filled with so much plump juicy oysters. Sharks fin soup as well. Service is prompt, food arrives quick and fresh from the wok. Flavour wise- we thought it had declined through the years. It is on the tamer side of things and needs more oomph.
Classic Teochew restaurant in Chinatown Bangkok. Very popular with locals and tourists. Food was tasty and service was good. The staff were able to communicate in mandarin or English. Prices were reasonable too. The roasted pork is their signature dish. Be sure to order that!
Old school Chinese restaurant that transport me back to 1980s in SG. Felt nostalgic as my childhood was in that era. Came before 1700hrs and we are the 2nd customer group in the restaurant. Food was authentic Teochew style and it suits my tastebud. There is one uncle who speaks good Mandarin and gives good recommendations on the dishes to order. The only cons in this restaurant is the place smells of sewage which might be due to heavy rain on that day and they only accept cash. The young boss can speak English very well if you need help.
