Escape the noise and bustle of Bangkok City for a day and travel to Koh Kret, an island on the Chao Praya River in northern Bangkok. Be driven in an air-conditioned taxi to Nonthaburi then take a 5-minute ferry to the island. Koh Kret is one of the oldest settlements of the Mon, an ancient ethnic group located in eastern Burma and in western Thailand. The island served as a refuge to the Mon tribes and has retained a distinct identity in their culture, particularly in their pottery. The traditions of the islanders are 350 years old. The island is known for its beautiful nature, old buildings, and weekend market with delicious food and many kinds of handicraft. Explore the market and admire the many locally prepared treats and products. Visit a pottery and try to make a small handicraft as a souvenir. Then, head to the brewery, which brews up to nine different beers. If you do not want to taste the beer, you can alternatively visit a café where you can hand-roast fresh coffee beans then watch it being made into coffee. You can continue to explore the island by bike independently before returning to Bangkok City.
