Marble Temple or Wat Benchamabophit
Bangkok
One of Bangkok's most stunning temples, Wat Benchamabopit, also known as the Marble Temple, is a beautiful Buddhist temple in the Dusit district of Bangkok. It is definitely a must-see for any visitor to Bangkok. The temple is characterised by its mosaic floors, gold interior, glass-stained windows, and high gables. There are 52 Buddha statues inside, all showing different signs.
Unlike the Grand Palace, the Marble Temple is a quieter and more serene experience. There are also beautiful gardens surrounding the temple, which are nice places to relax and walk around. The temple and gardens are perfect for avid photographers, as you're guaranteed some great shots.
If you want a really special experience, get up early and watch the merit makers presenting alms to the monks between six and half past seven in the morning. Instead of going out looking for alms, the monks at Wat Benchamabopit wait for the merit makers to deliver them. The monks line up to receive their alms and other supplies. In the evening there is a candlelit procession during the Buddhist festivals of Maha Puja in February and Visakha in May.
