The BTS, short for the Bangkok Mass Transit System, is an elevated train-type system that connects the city. There are 32 stations along two lines, the Silom line, which travels mainly to Silom and Sathon Roads and through Bangkok's Central Business District and the Sukhmvit line, which travels north and east. The entire network is around 55km. The BTS is the most straightforward way to get around Bangkok. The prospect of using public transport in such a gigantic city may be daunting for many tourists at first. However the BTS makes things simple, with an easy to understand route and stations close to all of Bangkok's most important sights, best shopping centres, and best entertainment venues.
There are a variety of tickets on offer. Customers can purchase a single journey ticket or a one-day ticket, and for people staying in the city longer there are also weekly and monthly passes.
