Bangkok Bitter

Bangkok Bitter is located in a mini-mall area but is visible from the road and is located in the fashionable Thonglor, which is something of a restaurant and bar hub in Bangkok. The restaurant has the feel and look of a cellar bar with its subdued lighting, exposed brick, and blue painted walls.Bangkok Bitter also has balcony seating outside, and despite the small dining area the layout is relaxed rather than cramped, giving the place a bar-bistro feel rather than a formal restaurant space.

Classic Italian dishes are featured along with some traditional appetisers but the bulk of the menu features pastas and pizzas, and Bangkok Bitter is more about relaxed dining with Italian flavours rather than any fine-dining experience. The menu and the ambience might appeal more to a younger crowd, or couples looking for Italian food that is not served up in a classic trattoria or stuffy restaurant.

Appetisers include melon with Parma ham, brandy pate, and calamari, with some good sharing starters too such as nachos, which being more Mexican than Italian show the menu is far from classic. A few Thai dishes such as coconut pork satay and deep fried soft shell crab with holy basil sauce, widen the choices at Bangkok Bitter, and this is the type of restaurant where you can share a few different courses and snacks, along with a pizza too, and not feel that you have to stick too rigidly to the classic appetiser, main and dessert.

Squid ink gives the dough of Bangkok Bitter's trendy black pizza crust its colour and comes with mozzarella, tomato and Parma ham. The salad menu at Bangkok Bitter is varied enough to be interesting for example rocket salad with grilled shrimp, smoked duck salad with raspberry sauce, and fillet steak salad, offering fresh tastes which make Bangkok Bitter an attractive lunchtime retreat. However, the restaurant is more popular in the evenings for relaxed, casual style dining, with mid-range prices and pleasant, contemporary surroundings.
