Tongue Thai
Bangkok
A rustic setting in a two storey shop house, in close proximity to the Oriental hotel, offering hot and authentic Thai cuisine that usually caters for their local customers, but is becoming a great place for tourists to experience traditional gastronomy. A great vibe is found inside that plays soothing jazz, and furnished by teak wood, Asian antiques, and contemporary art from local artists. An oasis of an area that is submerged with 5 star hotels, but Tongue Thai remains very affordable, as a result of its local following. The food is particularly spicy so if this is not desirable to your palate then inform the waiting staff, and the chef will compromise to create milder spiced dishes.
Popular dishes on offer include ‘Pigeon Green Curry’ and their ‘Rice Noodle Parcel with Minced Pork and Condiments’. Like many authentic Thai restaurants there is an attractive variety of soup and curry dishes offering meat, fish, and vegetarian options. Alternatively the set menu is equally as affordable, choosing six items from a diverse list of appetisers, salads, soups, vegetables, meat, fish, and curries. Thai cuisine is not renowned for its desserts, and this is true for Tongue Thai which only has three sweet treats available.
Opening times: Everyday; breakfast/lunch 10:30-14:30; dinner 17:30-22:30.
