After stepping off the plane you might not relish the thought of airline food but Bangkok Air Catering is behind the Mediterranean and fusion food elegance of Bistro 7, an open style bistro in Bangkok's busy megamall Centralworld, with a smaller deli style outlet in a smaller shopping centre in trendy Thong Lor.

Bistro 7 is a perfect lunchtime stop with a menu that brims with quality ingredients cooked with care and attention to create well thought out dishes. The food at Bistro 7 has a distinctive fresh appeal, with elegant smoothies made with tropical fruits, and healthy plates such as salad nicoise and Carpaccio of yellow fin tuna with horseradish served with a tangy citrus dressing, sun-dried tomatoes and pomelo, as well as a dash of basil oil. Many of the dishes are about as far removed from airline food as you could imagine, such as the organic rice grass veloute soup from the restaurant's organic farm in Sukhothai, which is blended with fresh cream and white wine, with tender smoked duck breast.

Bistro 7 is all about fine European flavours presented well but with dishes such as soft shell crab salad, spaghetti with homemade sour pork balls and soba noodles with chicken livers, there is definitely some creative flair in the menu too.

At the Thong Lor branch breakfasts with gourmet style bakery bites are worth a look-in if you are needing some Western fare early in the morning too.
