Dining at Benjarong is like walking into a film set of a wonderfully nostalgic bygone era, with carefully prepared subtle yet complex dishes that make dining out a true experience in Thai culture and cuisine.
Benjarong is a reflection of the roots of the Dusit Thani Bangkok , which is a Thai born and bred luxury hotel in the heart of the city. Situated next to the thronging streets of Silom and modern day Bangkok, this Thai restaurant is a reminder of more sedate times, and it is this side of Thailand that everyone wants to see. The inside interior is intricately designed, with al fresco dining surrounded by greenery and overlooking a waterfall to give a sense of stepping back in time to when even Bangkok was a real rural setting.
The menu at this upscale Thai restaurant is quintessentially Thai. Elegantly dressed staff robed in Thai silks, and dancers in traditional Thai costume make a meal out at Benjarong feel like an event. Each dish is presented in beautiful Benjarong pottery.
The set menus are varied, interesting and delectable. Pork satay, fried stuffed crab meat, and catfish salad, offer a trio of appetisers, with seafood in coconut soup to follow, or the classic hot and sour seafood broth of Thailand. Soft shell crabs come deep fried with garlic and black pepper and are an all-time favourite for many Thai food lovers. Thick red curry, and vegetables with oyster sauce complement the arrangement, and steamed jasmine rice is the perfect delicately fragrant accompaniment to these rich layers of taste sensations. For something sweet, banana with coconut ice cream in syrup is one of those classic desserts where the taste is so much better than the description.
