Fatima Self Help Centre
Bangkok
The Fatima Shop is doing more than just selling items as decoration for your home. They are produced by local craft groups and all of the proceeds go towards funding the Good Shepherd Sisters Ministry in Bangkok.
The Good Shepherd Sisters began work in 1965 in the Din Daeng region of the city, which at that time was only open paddy fields and has been urbanized over the last few decades. It is not populated by slum dwellers who live in poverty and are subject to disease, specifically water-bourne germs during the rainy season.
The ministry aims to help with education and employment in these impoverished areas, funded by the purchase of products in the Fatima shop. Women especially are taught skills of sewing and needlecraft which means they can produce a sustainable wage for their family. Some of the women the centre has helped have even completed tertiary education and graduated.
The Fatima shop is situated in the parking area of Villa Supermarket and is a walk able distance from the Phrom Pong BTS Station and the Emporium Shopping Mall. So instead of spending all of your money on these brands, use it to help make a difference at Fatima.
