Description

Discover a more local side of Bangkok on a traditional longtail boat journey through the historic canals of Thonburi. Cruise peaceful waterways, see riverside communities, and visit Wat Paknam to admire its enormous golden Big Buddha. Meet your English-speaking guide and board a traditional Thai longtail boat for a journey away from Bangkok’s busy streets. Cruise through Khlong Mon and Khlong Bang Luang, two atmospheric canals in old Thonburi where life still revolves around the water. Along the way, pass wooden waterfront homes, small local boats, tropical greenery, canal-side temples, and scenes of everyday life. These historic waterways were once part of Bangkok’s main transportation network and remain home to communities that have lived beside the canals for generations. The slower pace of the canals offers a very different view of the city from Bangkok’s busy roads and modern skyline. Relax and enjoy the scenery as your guide shares stories about Thonburi, local canal life, and the important role these waterways have played in Bangkok’s history and development. Look out for traditional houses, neighborhood temples, waterside walkways, and local residents going about their daily routines. Continue by boat to Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen for a guided visit of approximately 45 minutes. Explore the impressive temple complex and learn about its cultural and religious importance. The highlight is the enormous golden Big Buddha, one of the most striking sights in this part of Bangkok. Rising high above the surrounding neighborhood, the Buddha can be seen from the canals as you approach Wat Paknam, creating one of the most memorable views of the tour. Step closer to admire the scale of the Big Buddha, explore the temple grounds, and discover the distinctive architecture and peaceful atmosphere of this important Buddhist site. Your guide will help introduce the temple and explain more about its place in the local community. After visiting Wat Paknam, return to the longtail boat for the final part of your journey. Cruise back through the waterways toward the Chao Phraya River while enjoying more views of traditional canal-side Bangkok from the water. Your tour finishes beside Wat Arun, the famous Temple of Dawn and one of Bangkok’s most recognizable landmarks. From here, continue exploring Wat Arun independently, cross the river toward Wat Pho and the Grand Palace area, or continue sightseeing at your own pace. This experience is ideal for travelers who want to discover Bangkok beyond the main roads and crowded attractions. In around two hours, combine a traditional longtail boat ride, authentic canal scenery, local communities, the spectacular Big Buddha at Wat Paknam, and a memorable finish beside Wat Arun on the Chao Phraya River.
