Description
After an early morning hotel pickup in Bangkok, drive approximately one hour to Ayutthaya Province. Your first stop is Bang Pa-In Palace, where you can admire the palace grounds and architecture.
Next, visit Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, built in 1357 to ordain monks trained in Sri Lanka. After this visit, enjoy lunch at a nearby Thai restaurant.
Continue to Wat Phra Si Sanphet, a royal temple complex featuring three large bell-shaped pagodas. Adjacent to it is Viharn Pra Mongkolborpit, housing a 40-foot high gilded bronze Buddha in the subduing Mara posture.
Then visit Wat Mahathat, historically a resting place for Buddha relics and home to the Supreme Patriarch of Buddhism. This site is famous for the Buddha head entwined by tree roots.
Finally, explore Wat Chaiwatthanaram, an impressive Khmer-style temple located across the Chao Phraya River from the Historical Island. An optional boat ride to this temple allows scenic views and easy access.
Return to your vehicle afterward for the drive back to Bangkok.
