At 1970 Bar Bangkok, almost every cocktail is inspired by a person, an experience, or a defining moment from the 1970s. This one is called Darker Side of the Moon. The name alone is already brilliant—but the story behind it is even better. Back in 1969, The Savoy in London created a cocktail called Moonwalk to celebrate the Apollo 11 moon landing. A year later, in 1970—the very era this bar is built around—Apollo 13 launched into space. The mission exposed the immense risks and uncertainty of lunar exploration, revealing the darker side of humanity’s journey to the Moon. Although Apollo 13 became known as a “successful failure,” every crew member miraculously made it back to Earth safely. Yet despite how significant that mission was, no cocktail had ever been created to commemorate it. So 1970 Bar decided to do it themselves. Absolutely brilliant. Incredibly nerdy. I love it. 1970 Bar at Dusit Thani Bangkok has such a stylish and sophisticated atmosphere. The moment you step inside, the space feels elegant yet relaxed, with beautiful city views and a retro-inspired design that gives the bar a very distinctive character. It feels perfect for both date nights and refined evenings with friends. What I enjoyed most was how creative the cocktail menu was. The drinks were beautifully presented and thoughtfully crafted, especially the signature cocktails inspired by local Thai ingredients and seasonal concepts. Everything felt balanced and refined rather than overly complicated. The atmosphere becomes especially beautiful in the evening when the lights of Bangkok start to glow around the bar. Service was also attentive and professional throughout the experience. A wonderful cocktail bar for anyone looking for a more polished and luxurious nightlife experience in Bangkok.
LOVE this bar!!! The 1970 Bar at Dusit Thani Bangkok is an absolute masterpiece of retro-glamour. From the moment you step onto the 39M floor, you are transported back to a golden era of style and sophistication. The 360-degree views of the city skyline are breathtaking, providing the perfect backdrop for their exceptional cocktail menu. What truly stands out is the atmosphere—vibrant yet refined, with a nod to the hotel’s rich history that feels both nostalgic and modern. The service was impeccable, making the entire experience feel truly special. It is easily one of the most stunning spots in the city for sunset drinks or a late-night celebration. A must-visit in Bangkok!
The bar is situated on the 39M floor in-door with an air con. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They offer a wide variety of drinks, and the tiramisu with a coco powder is particularly delicious!
Kudos! Tonight was truly special for our family at 1970s Bar Bangkok, perched beautifully atop the newly reimagined Dusit Thani Bangkok. As everyone was preparing to welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, our family was celebrating my wife’s birthday, and what a special night it turned out to be. My wife and I were married in 2001, and stepping back onto this iconic property after its complete demolition and stunning renovation was deeply emotional. Walking through the new buildings, admiring the architecture, and feeling the renewed energy of the space brought back so many cherished memories. Yet everything now feels elevated, refined, and truly world-class. The Dusit Thani brand has done something extraordinary, honoring the past while boldly stepping into the future. Our daughter handled all the arrangements and reservations (so proud of her attention to detail!), and from the moment we arrived, there was absolutely no disappointment, only excellence. The 1970s décor and interior design are beautifully executed — nostalgic yet sophisticated. Every corner feels intentional. The atmosphere is vibrant yet elegant, and the rooftop view is simply spectacular. Bangkok never looked better. What truly elevated the evening was the exceptional service. Namkhang and Bank were outstanding, attentive, warm, and professional. The entire team was alert and seamlessly coordinated; when we walked around taking photos and videos to celebrate my wife’s birthday, you could sense their communication and care. They made the celebration effortless and meaningful. In fact, the night was so magical it made me feel like proposing all over again and having another wedding right there on the rooftop… of course, with the same bride and today’s birthday beauty. Thank you for creating not just a dining experience, but a memory our family will carry forward. Five stars… and then some!
